Chung Sing Taste First Win In Season Debut

After losing all six games as an expansion in 2008, Chung Sing start a new year with a 28-18 victory over Wild Beasts. Kwok Fu Chung hit three treys for nine points, Lok Ming Sin added eight for the team, who missed playoffs last season.

Chung Sing used a 10-0 spurt to begin the league’s new season and hold the ten-point lead at the end of the first period.

Both teams struggled in the second period. Ming Yan Chow had six of the team’s eight turnovers in that span and they only had one point from Dennis Chang, who re-joined the team after he played SOUTHORN Tigers and SAMURAI in previous seasons. Wild Beasts took a bit advantage cut the lead to 6-13, despite shooting only 1-5 from the floor and was 2-6 at the line.

After half-time, Kwok Fu Chung scored from deep for a 16-6 lead before new beast Patrick Du hit two free throws to cut it to eight points. But Wild Beasts failed to score again until Kim Fung Chan made a lay up near the end of the period. The younger Chung Sing bounce back from a sluggish second period and four different players scored to extend the lead to 21-10 entering the final period.

Jonathan De Castro made a two-point shot and cut the deficit to single digit, but they never get closer than nine points the rest of the game.

Wild Beasts did not attempt a single shot from beyond the arc. They had a 28-18 advantage on the boards, with 12 offensive ones.

The 46 total points by two teams tied eigth in lowest combined points record in the league.
