O4 in SBL entering Playoffs

2009.05.22 13:23

In only the second season of SBL when it expanded to 14 teams and two of them will miss playoffs, still not all O4 teams can advnace. G.T. Explorers missed it last season with a 0-6 record and this year, they edged SAMURAI in standings and drop them out.

SAMURAI (1-5) lost 42-47 to Dream Team and the fifth straight loss cost them the playoffs hope. SAMURAI finished the short season on May 3 with an overall 1-5 record. Within a single season, it was the first time SAMURAI lost more games than won. They finished 4-1, 5-2, 3-3 and 5-3 in previous four appearance in Southorn Basketball League respectively.

SOUTHORN Tigers (3-3) played well enough to lead for almost entire game before seeing the game slipped away to D.S.F. in a 32-35 loss. Regardless of the final result of M.I.B. unless they lost by forfeit, Tigers thus settled for a 4th place in FLIGHT division and will face Trojans, who is also settled a 5th place in FORCE division, in the first round playoffs.

M.I.B. (3-3) will face G.T. Explorers in the first round on May 31 despite being routed 28-54 by Chung Sing.

G.T. Explorers (1-5), who missed playoffs last season after losing all six games, led the entire first half against Dream Team, the defending SBL champ, but couldn’t last for the whole game. Two foul-outs (Barton Lai and Kit Cheng) and an injury (Roy Kyaw) left them to play the game’s final minutes with only four players.
