Chin, Chow lift DRE to repeat

Dream Team defended the championship.

Seung Lung Chin added 22 points, Man Chun Chow and Chun Hong Tsoi added 16 and 15 respectively in the SBL Final 2009 to beat M.I.B. 59-45 and become the champion for a second straight time.

Chow hit the game’s first basket off a steal, Tsoi made two free throws and Leo followed with a basket as the Dream Team version’s Big Three opened the game with a 6-0 run.

Leo stole the ball from Jefferson Tong for a fast-break basket and finished the three-point play that put Dream Team up to 12-4. But Chi Fu Yuen answered by another three-point play, he added another basket late in the period as M.I.B. pulled within 9-12. Despite he blocked a shot out-of-bound from Tsoi, Tsoi made a three-point shot before the first period end when Dream Team lead 15-9.

The Big Three combined for the whole team’s nine three-point shot on 14 attempts.

M.I.B. managed to stay in the game, keep Dream Team from a single-digit distance almost throughout the second period until Chow made a three pointer before the half and Dream Team led 31-19 entering the intermission.

Wai Keung Lee scored the first eight points for M.I.B. as the second half begin, including a three-point play and a trey. While M.I.B. scores, they could not had stops. Chow had another three and Man Kit Chan’s basket had his team back to a nine-point lead before a timeout.

Dream Team could not defend the glass enough in a span that allowed M.I.B. to comeback. A mini 6-0 spurt helped M.I.B. to back within 33-38 before the end of the third period.

After the break, Leo and Chow combined for three straight baskets of the game which had Dream Team back to a double-digit lead.

Corn made a two point shot and pulled within 41-50 before Dream Team called a timeout midway through the 4th period. Time it running short and M.I.B. could only have four more points from Lee the rest of the game.

Corn Hui and Wai Keung Lee were both late to game.

The three shooting stars ranked 2nd to 4th in three-point made total in ten games this season. Chow and Tsoi each had 15 and Leo had 14. Andy So (13) and Benny Wong (16) are the only other players who made ten or more. M.I.B. had only one three-point attempt in Final, which is from center Wai Keung Lee, the tallest player in the game.

M.I.B. had complete dominance in rebound (34 to 9 overall) with 15 offensive boards, but they committed 22 turnovers, compared to only eight from Dream Team.

Chow averaged 12.9 points after the game and edged Chung Sing guard Lok Ming Sin (12.7) to become the scoring title. Teammate Ka King Kwan had 13.5 ppg but played less than half of the games (5) by the team.
