Final Standings?

2010.04.20 10:30

The final division ranking may be more important than the actual scores of individual games now, as the playoff is coming within a month’s time. Let’s see how it may happen after May 2.

After both falling short to Final, Trojans and H.F.C. were unbeaten this year in five games.

(Let’s assume all teams attend next game to gain the final single point even in loss)

I. FLIGHT Division

Current standings:

  1. TRO (5-0, 10 pts) –  vs CHU
  2. TRX (4-2, 10)
  3. SOU (3-3, 9)
  4. MAY (3-1, 7) – vs CHA
  5. CHA (2-3, 7) – vs MAY
  6. DSF (1-5, 7)
  7. CHU (1-4, 6) – vs TRO

Both MA YING and T-REX may rank second

Top five teams

With five wins, Trojans is locked for first place regardless of the game’s result on May 2.

However, the result of MA YING vs Challengers can change the middle ranking of few teams.

a) If MAY beat CHA

MAY will improve to 4-2 and tie T-REX, while MAY will be 2nd and TRX will be 3rd as MAY beat TRX on April 11. i.e.:

  1. TRO
  2. MAY (4-2)
  3. TRX (4-2)
  4. SOU (3-3)
  5. CHA (2-4)

b) If CHA beat MAY

MAY, CHA and SOUTHORN Tigers will be involved in a 3-way tie. In such situations, within the three teams, CHA won twice and will be 3rd overall. SOU and MAY both are 1-1 while SOU beat MAY in the season match-up and will be ranked 4th and MAY will be 5th.

  1. TRO
  2. TRX
  3. CHA (3-3)
  4. SOU (3-3)
  5. MAY (3-3)

In short, SOU is locked #4, while the ranking for TRX, MAY and CHA will be determined by MAY-CHA result.

Final Seat

D.S.F. finished all division games only at 1-5, Chung Sing (1-4) will face Trojans on May 2. One win for Chung Sing will give them a 2-4 result for playoffs or a loss will confirm an exit for the kids as D.S.F. own the tie-breaker.

II. FORCE Division

Current standings:

  1. HFC (5-0, 10) – vs GRI
  2. SAM (3-3, 9)
  3. PHO (3-3, 9)
  4. DRE (3-2, 8 ) – vs GTE
  5. GRI (2-3, 7) – vs HFC
  6. GTE (2-3, 7) – vs DRE
  7. SPT (1-5, p)

G.T. Explorers is looking to be without one of their top player the rest of the season… but who knows…

SPIRIT lost the season finale by forfeit and their season is done. H.F.C. topped the division with five wins. However, even getting rid the top and the bottom, it is a bit complicated within the middle teams.

a) A win by Dream Team

It would be easy for counting, as the 4-2 team will clinch second place in division and that means G.T. Explorers will remain 2-4 for a sixth seed. Even if GRIZZ beat H.F.C. in next game and become 3-3, they lost to both SAM and PHO before. A GRI loss still give them a 5th as they beat GTE. Thus:

  1. HFC
  2. DRE (4-2)
  3. SAM (3-3)
  4. PHO (3-3)
  5. GRI (3-3 or 2-4)
  6. GTE (2-4)

Unfortunately, things can go in uneasy ways. But I simulate this now just to save time for future.

b) A win by both G.T. Explorers and GRIZZ

A win by G.T. Explorers will give them a 3-3, tying Dream Team, SAMURAI and Photons.  And if at the same time, GRIZZ beat H.F.C., all five teams in the middle will be 3-3 (WOW!). In such a radical (!?) case, within the teams in this 5-way tie:

DRE GTE GRI PHO SAM W-L Pts

DRE

L W

57-31

W

40-32

W

48-35

3-1 7

GTE

SAM

35-48

L

26-31

W

42-37

W

26-23

2-2 6

In such case, Dream Team would also rank first before other teams and GRI at the bottom. A further classification will be needed for GTE, PHO and SAM. In this three-way tie, each team won and lost once and obviously the 66-point-margin game plays a significant role here:

GTE PHO SAM W-L Pts

GTE

L

2-68

W

31-26

1-1 33-84

PHO

W

68-2

L

23-26

1-1 91-28

SAM

L

26-31

W

26-23

1-1 52-54

The big different of GA does not even needed a calculation and therefore:

  1. HFC
  2. DRE (3-3)
  3. PHO (3-3)
  4. SAM (3-3)
  5. GTE (3-3)
  6. GRI (3-3)

c) A GRI-win and GTE-loss

This would give this result:

  1. HFC
  2. DRE (4-2)
  3. SAM (3-3)
  4. PHO (3-3)
  5. GRI (3-3)
  6. GTE (2-4)

d) A GTE-win and GRI-loss

GRIZZ lost to H.F.C. and being 2-4 will leave them at 6th place. And if GTE win next (over DRE), within the four teams (DRE, SAM, PHO & GTE) being 3-3:

  • GTE (2-1) has victories over SAM and DRE;
  • DRE  (2-1) having defeated SAM, PHO;
  • SAM (1-2) and PHO (1-2) both won only once in this group while SAM beat PHO;

The result will be:

  1. HFC
  2. GTE (3-3)
  3. DRE (3-3)
  4. SAM (3-3)
  5. PHO (3-3)
  6. GRI (2-4)

-=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=–=-

After all, please note that teams lost by forfeit would get zero points, losing teams get one point while winning teams get two in each game.
