2009.04.27 02:23

Michael leads D.S.F. to a 5-0 season so far.

D.S.F. scored 5 points in overtime to M.I.B.’s 2 and edged the men in black in a 44-41 victory. The 5th victory confirmed a top rank for D.S.F. and M.I.B. will rank 3rd should they take their final game against Chung Sing.

Andy Li hit a three-pointer and split a pair of free throw for a 39-36 lead down the stretch, but Michael Chan tie the game at 39 before both teams failed to score in the final possesions as time expire.

Corn Hui was called for a technical foul in the beginning of the extra period as he kicked the ball and lost heat after being grabbed to the floor. Michael hit a free throw and made another basket for a 42-39 advantage.

Corn scored two and M.I.B. pulled within 41-42 but Mike Tse sealed the win with two foul shots.

Michael’s two points were sandwiched by Frankie Wing Fai Lee’s five and they combined for a 7-0 spurt to lead 11-4 mid-way through the first period. M.I.B. comeback for a 13-12 lead before the end of the first period.

After the game was tied at 15 and 17, D.S.F. was finally able to stretch a little bit scoring four of the game’s next six points for a 23-19 halftime lead.

After another 6-point lead at 25-19 right after halftime, the biggest by DSF, Andy tie the game again at 27-all before he put M.I.B. to a 30-27 lead with a three-point shot.

Alex Li hit two free throws before the end of the third period, when M.I.B. led 33-31. M.I.B. had five offensive boards in the third period alone.

Alex scored two to pull within 34-35 before Andy hit his second three-pointer.

At 44-41, with seconds left in the extra period, M.I.B. came out after a timeout and missed the potential game-tying three.

Michael’s 14 points helped improve his average scoring to 13 per game, which rank second in the league after the game. Wai Keung Lee added 8 points and is third on average scoring in the league. He also added 9 boards and three blocked shots.

Benson Kwong tied a game-high 9 rebounds and added two dimes, but shot 0-for-9 from the field and managed one point from foul line.

Mike Tse was called for an unsportsman-like foul when he pulled Andy Li to the floor before the MIB guard could drive to the baset.

D.S.F. will play next game against SOUTHORN Tigers on May 3, M.I.B. will meet Chung Sing on May 17. Both at Western Park Sports Centre.

All three match-ups by the two teams are decided by a 5th period. D.S.F. lost 40-44 last season in April 27, their first meeting since D.S.F. joined the league, and won 41-38 in playoffs second round.
