After a new team won, the other new team Trojans lost the season opener. SAMURAI started another season with a win, also at Western Park Sports Centre, and beat the Trojans 39:28.

Trojans forward Michael Lau swished two long jumper near the right baseline in the first period as his team took a 8:4 advantage into the 2nd period. He scored a team-high 6 points, added 8 rebounds, six at the offensive end. He also has one assist and steal apiece but commited five turnovers.

However, Trojans has only three points from Frankie Lee and was outscored by the SAMURAI 3-10 in the second period, behind two treys by Eric Leung. Eric Leung hit two more three points and scored the team’s first six points in the second half.

With a free throw by Kwan Yu Ho, two baskets by Jack Chiu and 5 points by Chi On Lau, SAMURAI extended the lead to 14 points entering the final period.

Trojans has only 4 points, one at the line and one basket from the three point zone, all by Man Wan, in the third period. The Trojans guard-forward came off the bench and scored a team-high 8 points, all in the final period. He also added six rebounds, but he missed all 5 free throws, 4 in the third period, despite a 4-9 shooting in the field for the night.

Trojans tried to come back in the final period but the lead was too much for them overcome. SAMURAI new guard Chi On Lau scored 9 points, most among starters, recorded one assist and had an outstanding five steals. Among the league, only teammate Jackie Lai has stolen five times in one game before.

Kwan Ho Yu missed 6 of the eight free throw attempts. He was 1-6 at the line in the final period. SAMURAI star Michael Chan will miss the season due to knee pain. Starting centre did not attend the game by personal reason.

Trojans were two-point shy to reach 30 points and be the only team cannot reach the mark on the first day. SAMURAI cannot reach the 40-point mark as most from the poll estimated.
