SAM 29, CHA 37
2008.03.17 17:47
SAMURAI might have started the game well, but their collapse as time goes is good enough for Challengers to get another comeback win. Yuen Ki Chiu added another twenty-point performance, scoring 23 points and six steals and led a 11-2 final period for a 37-29 victory against SAMURAI.
James Kwan scored two of his personal best six points to start the game, Kelvin Ng and Ka Ming Wan added four and SAMURAI lead 6-0 to begin. Chi On Lau added a trey and they took a 15-8 advantage just at the end of the first period, when SAMURAI was 6 on 10 from the field and did not allow a single offensive rebound.
Not only Yuen Ki Chiu scored seven of the team’s eight points in the second period but also due to SAMURAI’s regress, the game was close again into the break. At 16 tied, Eric Leung hit a three-pointer in just the first try and SAMURAI lead 19-16 at half-time.
After Joe Heung, Yu Yin Hon and Yuen Ki Chiu each scored in a 6-2 run for a one-point lead, the teams exchanged lead and neither can get away until Yu Yin Hon put his team to 26-23. Patrick Lai scored two and Ka Ming Wan added two free throws when SAMURAI re-gain a lead entering the final period at 27-26.
The complete cold shooting SAMURAI, who had only one field goal on 14 attempts, saw only James Kwan’s two points in the final period while allowing Challengers to score eleven points including several fast-break points.
Ka Ming Wan was fouled out in the final minute, the centre had seven points, four rebounds and two steals. After a combined 3-6 from the field in the first half, Kelvin Ng and Eric Leung missed 13 attempts in the second. Chi Chiu Au, the 3rd Runner-Up of scoring title last season, missed seven shots before his only field goal in the 3rd period. He shot 1-9 for the night and had only two points.
Jack Chiu attended the game but did not dress.
After this loss, SAMURAI dropped to 2-2 after the loss while Challengers improved to 3-1 and topped the division.
SAMURAI out-rebounded Challengers by a 13-6 advantage at the offensive end.
Challengers had free throw 23 attempts, SAMURAI had only four. They scored at least ten points in the 4th period in all four games played this season.
SAMURAI lost two straight games after winning the first two games of the season.
