For three periods, SAMURAI looked to have their third loss since the team was built. But the SOUTHORN Tigers had another 4th period collapse and this time cost them the game.

With only seven players for the second straight game, and played without forward Terence Chan, leading scorer and rebounder, the Tigers played a very good first half to lead 27:16.

The Tigers shot 8-19 from the field, including two treys by Ken Leung and one from Cindy Lee, and 8-9 from the line before the break.

Lead by 6 points from Kwan Ho Yu, SAMURAI shot 7-13 in the third period to stay in the game. The Tigers missed 6 of the 8 free throw attempts in the same period. Two three-point shots by Cindy Lee helped the Tigers to keep a lead entering the final period by 37:31.

The Tigers lost the rythm completely in the final period, when they made no field goals and scored only one point by Gary lai at the line.

Benny Wong“s shooting slump continued, missed all six attempts in the period. The Tigers guard still managed to have 5 points on 1-11 shooting from the field, missed all eight attempts from three-point range. He added one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block.

After only 5 turnovers committed in the first half, the SOUTHORN Tigers had 13 in the second. Started for the second straight game, Tigers forward Gary Lai scored 4 points, matched a game-high 6 boards. He also dished two times and had one steal. He committed 5 turnovers, four in the crucial final period. Teammate Wilson Chow had 12 points, 5 boards and 1 assist despite playing thru foul trouble for the second half.

SAMURAI captain Eric Leung hit two treys, both in the final period. Complaining to the referees almost the whole game, SAMURAI Centre Dennis Chang bounced back from a four-point performance, scored 12 points on 4-6 shooting and was perfect at the line. Teammate Kwan Ho Yu added 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and two steals, but was only 1-7 at the line.

Tigers guard Cindy Lee scored her first points in the league. Guard-forward Wai Chun Wong started for the first time, in place of forward-centre Chi Wing Chow, who came to the court late. Chi Wing Chow was scoreless but had a career high 6 rebounds and four assists.

SAMURAI forward Dennis Chan started for the first time this season, teammate Jack Chiu came off the bench for the second straight game after starting for the team“s first three games. Centre James Kwan did not start for the first time, he was scoreless before fouled out in the final period. Patrick Lai, SAMURAI“s leading scorer, added 9 points off the bench.
