5 Photons Scored 46 in Loss
2009.05.06 16:46
Michael and Trojans hand Photon’s second loss in 2009
With each player playing all 40 minutes of the game, Photons — who had only five players available — almost erased a 13-point deficit and just missed a three-point shot at the end of the game before they lost 46-48 to Trojans.
Played only his second game of the season, Mike Mak scored 5 striaght points including a three-point shot, capped a 11-0 run in the third period for a 13-point lead. At that point, the five-men-only Photons looked to have done for the game.
Well, not yet.
After Jerry Lee shot for three to close the third period and Mike hit another one to start the final period, Trojans led 48-38. The problem to Trojans was, they never score again.
Harris Wong swished a three from right wing and pulled within 43-48, Ming Yan Tsui made two free throws for a three-point game. Tl Li stole the ball for a fastbreak and was fouled. He Split a pair of foul shots and Photons was down by only two with less than 20 seconds left.
Jerry Lee, who hadd 11-points, turned the ball over in the ensuing possesion, giving a final chance for Photons to tie the game — or win.
Instead of wanting a two to tie the game, Jason Tong moved the ball to the front court and tried a three, which touched nothing and the game ended.
Mike and Jerry combined for six turnovers in the 4th period alone.
The game featured a high scoring second period when Photons had 20 and Trojans had 19. The teams combined for over 50% (15-29) of the field goals in that 10-minute span.
Mike Yau almost had the first triple-double of the league with 9 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had 8 assists. Michael Lau had 13 points and eight boards.
Ming Yan had another double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds for Photons. Harris Wong, despite shooting 4-for-14 from the field, added 12 points, seven boards, four assists and four steals. Jason Tong added 10 points and four assists.
46 points is a team record for Photons.
Trojans went to the line only once. Sunny Wong made both free throws.
The loss to Photons confirmed the standings in the whole division. They will be ranked 2nd regardless of the results by GRIZZ and H.F.C. who will be first and 4th.
Photons had not lost two straight games since they lost in Semi-finals to H.F.C. followed by a loss to SOUTHORN Tigers in their first season in SBL. They win 8 straight in the next season before losing to Dream Team in the Final.
