Lai Ngai Fai (SPN #25) scored a game-high 17 points and helped Spartans to win 50-38 on Sunday and improved to 2-1. Desperately looking for a first win this season, the two-time champion Dream Team lost a third straight game this season.

The game was “tidal” throughout the first half.

Down 2-8 to start the game, Dream Team used a 6-0 run to close the first period for an 8-all tie. And concluded by six points from Chiu Ka Wai (DRE #4), the run was stretched to a 14-0 as Dream Team led 16-8 in the middle of the second.

After a three-point play by Wong Chau Keung (SPN #78) to cut the deficit to 13-16, each team exchanged baskets, but Spartans began to take advantage as Lai Ngai Fai used his own 7-to-nothing run that turned a five-point deficit to a two-point lead.

Chiu Ka Wai split a pair of free throw and sent the game to half time break as Dream Team was down 21-22.

Penny Wan (DRE #15) tied the game in the beginning of 3rd period by a free throw before seeing a 6-0 run from Spartans to re-gain control of the game.

Spartans were still going to the line, putting up four of the teams’ first six points of the 4th period by free throw and led 36-27 early in the period.

Chin Seung Lung (DRE #3), who did not start the game and was late to the court, scored four points for Dream Team when Spartans still led 36-31.

Chiu Ka Wai hit a three-point basket and Chin seung Lung’s basket late in the game and Dream Team came close to six points twice but was too much to overcame down the stertch as Spartans beat Dream Team for the first time in third try, while Dream Team lost three straight game only the first time since they join the League five years ago.

Chan Hon Kit scored 12 points and made all his six free throws for Spartans. Wong Chau Keung added eight. Wan Kong (SPN #5) is done for the year with a torn ACL, but was at court side on Sunday.

Dream Team beat Spartans by a historical 87-point effort in the first ever match-of the teams and still rout Spartans by 16 points in their previous two match-ups.

Chiu Ka Wai scored a team-high 12 points but missed 16 shots from the field an half from the line. Chin added 11 points and Chow Man Chun (DRE #5) had seven points. Chiu Ka Wai is only the second player this year attempted 20 or more field goals in one game.

Dream Team was 1-8 from the three-point land, while Spartans only attempted twice from deep, both were misses.
